Our Story

We began with just a few local men getting together to share the the experiences and challenges of finding the right assistance and advice for prostate cancer in Moonee Valley. As we learnt from our own journeys and imparted knowledge from our own experiences, our small group grew, continuing to offer help and guidance for the local residents dealing with prostate cancer.

Why we’re here

The prognosis of prostate cancer comes as a severe shock, not only to the man himself, but also to his immediate family, particularly his wife or partner. Limited access to information and assistance can make him feel very lonely and despondent, particularly at the initial stage of diagnosis.

A Prostate Cancer Support Group can be of great assistance at this time, offering both consumer-level advice on various treatment options, and encouragement, to see that there is life after prostate cancer. And we share our experiences in a confidential setting.

Please Note: We do not possess the expertise to provide medical advice.

How we do things

  • Any personal information is confidential. What is said in the meeting stays in the meeting.

  • We do not provide medical advice. We do, however, provide support to members and their families through the prostate cancer journey.

  • Everyone has an equal right to talk or to be silent.

  • We participate in community events to bring about awareness of our Prostate Cancer Support Group and the benefits of attending.

  • We occasionally participate in fund raising activities to cover group costs and community awareness programs.
